Blended With

Juniper Essential Oil

Juniper was referenced in the Bible, inferring its ability to relieve fatigue (Sellar, 1997)

This Oil offers emotional support and reduces physical and emotional signs of stress. Some sources claim that juniper is one of the most effective essential oils for dealing with inner trauma and pains because juniper may have positive effects on relaxation responses in the brain when inhaled. (Levy, 2018)

When in use the oil becomes a relaxant and sleep aid as the smell of juniper offers emotional support and reduces physical and emotional signs of stress. When inhaled juniper may have positive effects on relaxation responses in the brain. (Levy, 2018)

Overall, this essential oil added to this blend has the added benefit of a relaxant and sleep. Juniper essential oil is effective in nearly all forms of cramps by relaxing the muscles. (Nagdeve, 2021) making this a perfect choice to aid rest.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender has been documented as a therapeutic agent as far back as the ancient Greeks and Romans. Both dried foliage and essential oil have remained continuously popular as both therapeutic and cosmetic agents to the present day (Cavanagh and Wikinson, 2002). The plant is commonly purported to have anti-depressant, anxiolytic and sedative properties, thus its essential oil has been used often for relaxation. Reduction of anxiety can aid in getting to sleep, and there is some evidence to support lavender’s reputed anxiolytic effect.

Palmarosa Essential Oil

Palmarosa could be useful in lifting feelings of depression that may affect rest, there is some evidence to suggest that geraniol is sedative, as such, palmarosa may aid in promoting a night of more restful sleep.

Palmarosa is primarily comprised of geraniol, with an average content of 60-84% (Price and Price, 2011). There is some evidence to suggest that geraniol is sedative, (Buchbauer et al., 1993). As such, palmarosa may aid in promoting a more restful sleep and state of mind.

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium apart from its pleasant aroma, has anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, sedative, anxiety reducing, and muscle relaxing properties ( Sulong , 2006). It also facilitates blood circulation and eases breathing.

With a varied blend of chemistry, including alcohols, esters and aldehydes, geranium oil is able to help calm and relax, bringing on a feeling of well being. Used in the bath before bedtime can encourage a good night's sleep.

Geranium is reportedly anxiolytic. Tasev, Toleva and Balabanova (1969) also reported that atomised geranium increased attention spans, concentration capacity and work rhythms, and shortened reflex times in 48 medical students (Price and Price, 2011).

How to Use

Essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care. The guidance below is a helpful starting point, but we recommend consulting a qualified aromatherapist for personalised advice. Need help? Call us on 01455 251020 or email [email protected]; we’re happy to help.

Inhalation
Undiluted essential oils may be inhaled from a tissue or a pillow (4-6 drops). Alternatively, they can be inhaled from a bowl of hot water (3 or 4 drops) or a diffuser (see table below), but avoid this if asthmatic. Never inhale essential oils directly from the bottle.

Shampoo and Bath Foam
Create unique aromatherapy bath foams or shampoos by mixing up to 30 drops of your own essential oil blend into 100ml of a suitable bath foam base or shampoo base.

Skincare Cream
Essential oils can be added to vegetable-based creams and then developed into facial products or topical creams. Do not add more than 15 drops of essential oil to 50ml of your base cream.

Pregnancy
Essential oils are best avoided during the first months of pregnancy. After the third month, many oils can be used safely and effectively. If in doubt, always consult a qualified aromatherapist. Find out more in our blog, Aromatherapy & Pregnancy
