Peppermint has a wide range of therapeutic uses and is a versatile essential oil. Some of these properties are analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation or swelling), anti-migraine (helps with migraines), antispasmodic (relieves muscle tension and spasms), antiviral, carminative (calming to the body and mind), digestive, expectorant (thins and loosens mucus), mucolytic (Mucus clearing), neurotonic (a tonic for the mind) and uterotonic (giving tone for the uterus).
Menthol, peppermint’s major constituent, is known to interact with cold receptors in the airways upon inhalation. This is known to reduce the perception of nasal congestion and increase the perception of nasal airflow and has also been found to reduce the discomfort associated with laboured breathing. It is used for migraine, neuralgia, bronchitis, sinusitis, colic, herpes, indigestion, nausea, colitis, IBS, irregular periods, apathy and nervous conditions.

In many parts of Europe, especially Spain, lemon is regarded as a cure-all, especially for fever, infection and scurvy. It is very nutritious, being high in Vitamins A, B and C and is known for its ability to boost your immune system and support your lymphatic system, helping you to overcome a cough or cold quickly.
Lemon is antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation or swelling), which makes it a great tool for supporting your immunity as you battle with a respiratory condition. Lemon essential oil also benefits your lymphatic system, which protects your body from outside threats, by improving blood flow and reducing swelling in your lymph nodes. (C. Ruggeri, 2019). This can help reduce the accumulation of fluids that can cause you to cough.
Can be helpful for asthma, aches, pains, sinuses and colds.
Widely used in Ayurvedic medicine for bronchitis, coughs, colds, asthma flu and emphysema. It has also been used against epidemics and fever such as malaria. In the West, used for arthritis and irritable skin.
Sweet basil is a general tonic to the whole body. In particular it is used because it is antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasm), antiseptic, antiviral, carminative (easing colic and flatulence), a nervous system regulator and a decongestant (helps diminish blockage, i.e. to the lymph system). This means that it is useful against gout, muscle spasm, gastro-enteritis, sluggish digestion, ulcers, hypotension, anxiety and stress, as well as congestion in the breast and dry eczema.
These properties also make the oil a good choice for the respiratory system and Basil essential oil is an ingredient in several cough syrups and expectorants (thins and loosens mucus). The oil provides relief from bronchitis, influenza and asthma, while chewing its leaves relieves cold. To ease a sore throat add basil leaves to warm water and gurgle.
