Although it is called gum it is almost entirely made up of resin and essential oil. Native to the Philippine Islands and the Moluccas where it is also cultivated and distilled. There are several other species that grow wild or are cultivated in the Philippines, which also yields gum. It is closely related to Myhrr and Frankincense.
