Native to the North. east, central and South America as well as Venezuela, Guyana, Surinam and Columbia. There are many species of Copaifera that yield oleoresin - the Venezuelan type has a lower oil content whilst the Brazillian type has a high oil content. Oleoresin is used in many pharmaceutical products such as cough medicines and is also used as a fixative fragrance component.
