Almond carrier oil is one of the most commonly used cold-pressed carrier oils. A delicate pale yellow colour, it is known for its revitalising and gently soothing properties. Almond Oil is perfect for massage treatments both on the back and full body and is ideal to use on its own or as part of a blend. With Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6 & E.

Almond is an ancient tree that has been cultivated for thousands of years. Almonds were prized by the Greeks, who introduced them to Southern Europe.

Sunflower Oil

Plant Family: Asteraceae
Extraction: Cold Pressing of the seeds

Nutritious oil rich in linoleic acid Sunflower oils contain vitamins A, D and E with the minerals calcium, zinc, potassium, iron and phosphorus, it is a great oil for massage

A very pale yellow oil Sunflower is light and slightly sweet. Organic oil is often used as the maceration medium for Calendula and other plants. Organically grown plants are cold-pressed to obtain the oil whereas non-organically grown plants are sold commercially in large quantities where the oil is refined by solvents.

Originating in South America, the flower was worshipped by the Aztecs as a representation of the sun. The plant was brought to Europe at the end of the 16th century. The plant requires a lot of water, they can be used to drain boggy areas. Before collection, the seeds are allowed to ripen in the flower head until they turn black.

Therapeutic Properties

Sweet Almond Oil 

  • An excellent emollient, alleviating and nourishing dry skin
  • Helps to reduce inflammation 
  • Beneficial in relieving itching caused by eczema, psoriasis & dermatitis. 
  • Has been used to ease irritation on babies' bottoms.
  • Soothes sunburn, almonds and hazelnuts have an anti-erythematous action to reduce inflammation and peeling.

Sunflower Oil 

  • Beneficial for skin complaints and bruises 
  • Alleged to be helpful in the case of leg ulcers
  • Included in preparations for skin disorders such as hemorrhoids, acne, seborrhoea, rhinitis and sinusitis. 
  • The oil has a softening, moisturising effect on the skin and is good for use in massage
  • Sunflower oil has slight diuretic properties
  • It is expectorant and as it contains inulin, it is useful in the treatment of asthma. (Mabey 1988 p.14)

Sunflower OilThe oil used in blended cooking oils has been highly refined and should not be used in aromatherapy and massage. The refined oil should not be used at high temperatures as it breaks down and produces toxic elements when heated.
