Onion Seed Oil, Latin name, Allium Cepa, is a Cold Pressed carrier oil, ours is from Germany, but don’t worry, it wont make your eyes water! This seed is not from the vegetable itself, rather from the flowers of the onion plant, and it has been in circulation for centuries. Historically the Greeks used onion oil to relieve their headaches, parasitic worms, and toothaches, and the Egyptians used the seeds in many of their graves to protect the sacred things.
The oil is very much considered a "repair" oil, especially when it comes to hair and skin care, and has zero-waste credentials. Packed with vitamin C (folic acid) this oil carries plenty of punch in the essential fatty acid department, along with natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Onion oil is rich in sulphur, blending well on your hair & aiding in the strengthening of hair follicles and nourishment of the scalp. Having a reputation for stimulating hair growth and repairing hair damage by strengthening the follicles leading to healthy, thick hair. Nourishing the scalp can help fight dandruff and can help in maintain the pH of the hair to prevent premature greying.
Onion seed oil can be used as a direct treatment, as is suitable for use on even delicate hair, or combined with other natural ingredients for products such as hair masks and leave-in conditioners which are currently very popular. Some suggest that using onion oil on a regular basis will effectively prevent and treat baldness.
The vitamin C present in onion helps nourish skin, making it healthy and glowing. It is also beneficial on the skin due to its anti-bacterial and antioxidant properties and absorbs very effectively, lending itself to development in treatments for reducing scars, blemishes, uneven skin tone and preventing breakouts. And its not just your skin, onions take care of your lips too!
Therapeutically as onion oil is also antiseptic and anti-inflammatory it can also help with coughs and expelling phlegm when applied to your chest and can warm cold hands and feet when massaged in. Its great for alleviating fever and soothing an aching body. Its anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties make it great for wound healing too.
Onion seeds are well known for their many healing properties, making it a hard-working addition to your treatments.

I enjoyed your blog very much. However, I have a question to ask. Isn’t onion oil toxic to humans? It seems that about 20 years ago someone had written something concerning the use of onion “carrier” oil. Has someone developed a way to remove the toxins from the onion oil? I would like to know because someone recently asked about purchasing some onion oil and I can now send them to you. Thank you.

Hi Ellie.
I’m really interested in onion oil for my hair. Thank you! Love the blogs!
Can you suggest a way of using it on the scalp and hair please?
When I’ve tried carrier oils on my hair it leaves me feeling like my hair is oily and it looks lank even after several thorough washes.
Thank thanks
