Cumin is a small, delicate, annual herb about 50cm high with a slender stem, dark green feather-like leaves and small pink or white flowers followed by oblong seeds. Native to Egypt but cultivated in the Meditteranean regions, including, Spain, France and Morocco. The oil is mainly produced in India, Spain and France. It is closely related to Coriander in which it shares various properties. This plant is used for flavouring many foods and drinks, especially meat products and condiments.
