Blended With

Eucalyptus Smithii Essential Oil

This oil is s analgesic, anti-catarrhal, anti-infectious, antiviral, decongestant and expectorant. It is useful for hay fever, coughs, colds, flu, aches and pains, asthma, headaches and stress. It is a powerful air purifier when vaporised.

Lemon Essential Oil

Useful for the throat, cough colds and headaches. it has a fresh, zesty aroma.
In many parts of Europe, especially Spain, lemon is regarded as a cure-all, especially for fever, infection and scurvy.  It is very nutritious, being high in Vitamins A, B and C and is known for its ability to boost your immune system and support your lymphatic system, helping you to overcome a cough or cold quickly.

Lemon is antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory (reduces inflammation or swelling), which makes it a great tool for supporting your immunity as you battle with a respiratory condition. Lemon essential oil also benefits your lymphatic system, which protects your body from outside threats, by improving blood flow and reducing swelling in your lymph nodes. (C. Ruggeri, 2019).  This can help reduce the accumulation of fluids that can cause you to cough.

Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint has a wide range of therapeutic uses and is a versatile essential oil. Some of these properties are: analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-migraine, antispasmodic, antiviral, carminative, digestive, expectorant, mucolytic, neurotonic and utero-tonic. Menthol, peppermint’s major constituent, is known to interact with cold receptors in the airways upon inhalation. This is known to reduce the perception of nasal congestion and increase the perception of nasal airflow and has also been found to reduce the discomfort associated with laboured breathing. It is used for migraine, neuralgia, bronchitis, sinusitis, colic, herpes, indigestion, nausea, colitis, IBS, irregular periods, apathy and nervous conditions.

Sweet Basil Essential Oil

Helpful for asthma, aches, pains, sinuses and colds.

Widely used in Ayurvedic medicine for bronchitis, coughs, colds, asthma flu and emphysema.  It has also been used against epidemics and fever such as malaria. In the West, used for arthritis and irritable skin.

Sweet basil is a general tonic to the whole body.  In particular it is used because it is antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasm), antiseptic, antiviral, carminative (easing colic and flatulence), a nervous system regulator and a decongestant (helps diminish blockage, i.e. to the lymph system).  This means that it is useful against gout, muscle spasm, gastro-enteritis, sluggish digestion, ulcers, hypotension, anxiety and stress, as well as congestion in the breast and dry eczema.

These properties also make the oil a good choice for the respiratory system and Basil essential oil is an ingredient in several cough syrups and expectorants (thins and loosens mucus). The oil provides relief from bronchitis, influenza and asthma, while chewing its leaves relieves cold. To ease a sore throat add basil leaves to warm water and gurgle.

How to Use

Essential oils are highly concentrated and should be used with care. The guidance below is a helpful starting point, but we recommend consulting a qualified aromatherapist for personalised advice. Need help? Call us on 01455 251020 or email [email protected]; we’re happy to help.

Inhalation
Undiluted essential oils may be inhaled from a tissue or a pillow (4-6 drops). Alternatively, they can be inhaled from a bowl of hot water (3 or 4 drops) or a diffuser (see table below), but avoid this if asthmatic. Never inhale essential oils directly from the bottle.

Shampoo and Bath Foam
Create unique aromatherapy bath foams or shampoos by mixing up to 30 drops of your own essential oil blend into 100ml of a suitable bath foam base or shampoo base.

Skincare Cream
Essential oils can be added to vegetable-based creams and then developed into facial products or topical creams. Do not add more than 15 drops of essential oil to 50ml of your base cream.

Pregnancy
Essential oils are best avoided during the first months of pregnancy. After the third month, many oils can be used safely and effectively. If in doubt, always consult a qualified aromatherapist. Find out more in our blog, Aromatherapy & Pregnancy
