Benzoin Resinoid Essential Oil

Extraction: Solvent extraction of the tree & gum

Benzoin is a thick oil that has a rich sweet-balsamic odour. This oil is produced from both the siam and Sumatra types or a mix of the two. It is orange to brown in viscous mass with an intensely sweet rich balsamic odour.

Java, Sumatra and Thailand give us this tree. Triangular wounds are cut into the bark from which the sap exudes. It does not occur naturally. The greyish brown resinous lump is pressed into a solid mass and is not strictly an essential oil but more a resin. It is melted by heating over water before it can be used.

Herbal & Folk Tradition 

Traditionally used for thousands of years in medicine as an aid to digestion and as incense to drive evil spirits away. In the West, it has been used as a carminative for indigestion and for respiratory complaints, cuts and irritable skin conditions. 

Blends With 

Benzoin essential oil is a base note and blends well with, sandalwood, rose, jasmine, frankincense, myrrh, cypress, copaiba balsam, juniper, lemon and other spice oils.
