Spanish Sage Essential Oil is a pale yellow liquid with a fresh camphorous, slightly floral scent with woody undertones.

It is an evergreen shrub, similar to garden sage but with narrower leaves and small purple flowers.  The plant is very aromatic – reminiscent of spike lavender. native to the mountains in Spain, it also grows in south-west France but the essential oil is mainly produced in France. A very similar oil is distilled in Turkey from a Greek variety which is used for pharmaceutical purposes. Other types include Clary and Sage.


Blends well with Cypress, Clary Sage, Rosewood, Geranium and Rosemary.

Anti-depressant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, antispasmodic, hypotensive, nervine and hormonally balancing. Lavender sage is used to treat skin infections, hair loss, gingivitis, gum infections, excessive sweating and stress.  It is also used to treat fluid retention, jaundice, liver congestion, amenorrhoea, sterility and dysmenorrhoea.  Also for coughs, colds, headaches, exhaustion and asthma.

In Spain, this oil is considered a ‘cure-all’.  It is believed to promote longevity and protect against infection (such as the plague).  Used to treat menstrual problems, infertility, nervous weakness and rheumatism.

Safety Data & MSDS

There are no known contra-indications. Because lavender sage is therapeutically different from lavender, the two should not be confused. This type of lavender is actually a type of sage and yet has very few of the contra-indications associated with common sage. Use moderately – especially during pregnancy.
