Peppermint Essential Oil is a pale yellow-green oil with a highly penetrating grassy, minty, fresh aroma.

This common garden herb is one of many mint varieties.  It grows to around 2 feet high and the essential oil is prolific in the leaf.  Always check the Latin name when buying mint to ensure that the correct oil is purchased. Originally it was a cultivated hybrid between M.viridis and M.aquatica, which was known to be cultivated since before the seventeenth century. The oil is mainly produced in by France, England, America, Russia, Bulgaria, Italy, Hungary, Morocco and China.

Properties

Peppermint has a wide range of therapeutic uses and is a versatile essential oil. Some of these properties are analgesic, anti-inflammatory, anti-migraine, antispasmodic, antiviral, carminative, digestive, expectorant, mucolytic, neuro-tonic and uterotonic. It is used for migraine, neuralgia, bronchitis, sinusitis, colic, herpes, indigestion, nausea, colitis, IBS, irregular periods, apathy and nervous conditions.

Safety Data & MSDS

Not suitable for babies and young children as the oil is too powerful and rich in menthol. On adults, peppermint oil can be used undiluted on small areas of the skin after a bump or fall.
