This Essential Oil is a pale yellow oil with a deeply floral, sweet notes and an overtone of light citrus.

It is an evergreen tree up to 10 metres high with glossy, dark green leaves and fragrant with flowers from which the essential oil of neroli is distilled. Native to China and extensively cultivated in America and around the Mediterranean. There are numerous cultivated varieties – This essential oil is produced from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree, as well as many other subspecies, such as sweet orange and bitter orange.

Properties

Neroli is anti-depressive, digestive, hypotensive, neuro-tonic and phlebo-tonic as well as being anti-bacterial.  Mentally it is used for nervous depression, fatigue and insomnia, being lightly tranquilising.  It is also used for colitis, hypertension, varicose veins, haemorrhoids and is a tonic for the liver and pancreas.

Named after the Italian Princess Nerola, the oil is used as a nerve tonic and blood cleanser.

Safety Data & MSDS

There are no known contra-indications.  It is essential to use the genuine version of this much adulterated and simulated essential oil.  The flowers of the sweet orange tree do not yield such a quality essential oil as the bitter orange tree.
