Therapeutic Body Massage Courses

This course is a core unit for any further massage courses such as Sports Massage/Advanced Massage, Manual Lymph Drainage, Hot Stone Massage etc. It is comprised of two modules: Basic Massage Skills and Intermediate Massage Skills. The minimum period for the completion of this course is 4 months. To secure the practical and theoretical skills learned during the course, homework may be given to assist the students during the evenings of the course.

Comprehensive course notes and handouts are given out for each module. Treatment couches, carrier oils, and other products used during the course are provided. Textbooks, accommodation and food are not included in the fees.

Module 1 – Basic Massage Skills – 4 days Cost £360
During this first module, students will learn client assessment, posture, practitioner skills, benefits of massage and practical massage skills. The movements taught are based on the traditional Swedish Massage routine and the whole body massage is taught in detail. This module is compulsory for ITEC Aromatherapy.
NB Students have the opportunity to change course after this unit to Hot Stone Massage, Baby Massage or Indian Head Massage and will be issued with a certificate on transferral.

Module 2 – Intermediate Massage – 2 days Cost £180
The second module develops the massage skills to a clinical level to enable the student to offer massage for a variety of problem areas. Assessment skills are developed as are listening skills and case taking.

NOTE: Existing massage therapists wishing to develop their massage skills beyond basic body massage can attend part 2.

The course is assessed by:

1 hour written examination

1 and a half hour practical assessment

20 hours of case studies

Continuous assessment

Intermediate Body Massage Skills

Existing massage/aroma therapists wishing to develop their massage skills beyond basic body massage can attend the 2-day Intermediate Massage Course before embarking on Sports or Advanced Massage courses. It is recommended for aromatherapists as an introduction to different techniques. The course develops the massage skills to the next level to enable the student to offer massage for a variety of problem areas. This further massage qualification gives access to the following courses: Sports and Remedial, Advanced Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage and Finger Lift Facials.
