Reflexology
Reflexology is a complementary medicine therapy in which the reflex points on the feet are stimulated to bring about relaxation in corresponding parts of the body. As the feet represent a map of the body, all the organs, glands and other body parts are laid out in a similar arrangement on the feet. A reflexology treatment involves a holistic approach to health and healing in which advice on nutrition and exercise may be given since a person's lifestyle often has an impact on their health. However, the reflexology forms the major part of the treatment. Most people find this a very relaxing enjoyable experience, and beneficial to their health.
By using finger pressure on the specific points of the feet, therapists can really begin to stimulate the healing process in the corresponding part of the body. This can help reduce stress and congestion, reduce inflammation, boost circulation and eliminate toxins from the body. Treatments aim to improve both physical and emotional health by stimulating the bodies own healing system; rather than cure any condition. Treatment is usually relaxing, although it can cause a tingling sensation and tenderness at certain points.
How Does Reflexology Help?
Reflexology can help reverse the effects of stress and enable the body to return to homeostasis. This is achieved by stimulating the reflexes on the feet to cause relaxation in the corresponding parts of the body. This action has the following effects:
- Stimulation of the organs of the body results in detoxification
- Reduction of tension within the body
- Relief of pain
- Improvement of circulation
- Revitalisation of energy
- Prevention of disease by stimulating immune system
- Reconnects and restores the balance between our minds, body and souls to optimum levels.
