Rich in fatty acids helping to preserve the elasticity of the hair and high in vitamin E, a powerful antioxidant. It is used in various preparations for the hair and scalp to repair, nourish, reduce breakage and split ends.
Diluted and ready to apply. Apply a small amount through damp or dry hair and style as normal. For a richer treatment apply a small amount to the scalp, lengths and ends before bed, leave overnight and wash as normal in the morning.
Rosemary essential oil is spasmolytic meaning it can relieve spasm of smooth muscle. Combine this action with an evidence-based study showing it to improve circulation post topical application and the resulting effect could lead to the relaxation of the vessels present on the scalp and enhanced blood flow surrounding hair follicles meaning an increase in nutrients present in the scalp and healthier hair growth.
One of the phytochemicals that may explain these actions is “camphor - C10H16O”, a cyclic monoterpene ketone known to exert acute local active hyperemia (more blood flow to an area).
Another mechanism for the beneficial effects of rosemary oil is its antioxidant activity. Oxidative stress has been suggested to be associated with alopecia. A study by Naziroglu & Kokcam (2000) found significantly lower levels of antioxidants and elevated oxidants in patients with alopecia. Rosemary oil a well-documented for its antioxidant activity and has been shown to exert both free radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activities.
