Thyme HydrolatThyme Hydrolat
Thyme is a perennial evergreen herb, about 40cms high with a woody root. It has small, oval leaves, from which the aromatic essential oil and the hydrolat is obtained and pale purple or white flowers.

Thyme is recorded as one of the earliest medicinal plants in Western herbal medicine and was traditionally used for washing clothes to remove bad odours and to help with respiratory conditions, especially sore throats.

Used for the immune system, respiratory conditions, infectious disease, asthma and depression.

Thyme hydrolat is strongly antiseptic and can be used undiluted to rinse soiled clothes and surfaces to prevent the spread of infection. It is also antiviral and antifungal, making it useful to apply to cold sores, athletes foot and other viral and fungal conditions. The main use of the hydrolat and the essential oil of thyme is as an immuno-stimulant, which if taken regularly will help the body to rebuild its defences and serve as a prophylactic treatment.

Thyme hydrolat is excellent as a gargle for sore throats and mouth ulcers. Taken internally it can be a digestive aid and intestinal cleanser and detoxifier. It can be boiled to steam or wash infections or can be used as a douche for discharge and infection.

For general health thyme hydrolat is a good beverage, but as it is a very strongly flavoured hydrolat, it should always be diluted to taste

Immune booster
For general health, to boost the immune system and to prevent disease, use 100mls thyme hydrolat with 500mls of water (or more to taste). Ingest 50mls of this preparation every morning.

Sore throats
Blend 50mls boiled water with 50mls thyme hydrolat and gargle whenever necessary throughout the day. This very effective hydrolat can be swallowed after the last gargle to help protect the tissues of the throat and to reduce pain.

Linen spray
When travelling abroad, use 100mls boiled water and 200mls thyme hydrolat in a spray bottle to spray on hotel bed linen. This will protect against parasites, bed bugs and disease. In very poor conditions spray round the edges of the room and under the bed in addition to the linen.
