CalendulaCalendula
Calendula oil (Calendula officinalis).
Macerating the calendula flowers in sunflower oil produces this carrier oil. This means that although calendula is sold as a fixed oil, the calendula plant does not produce any fixed oil itself. The flower heads contain too little essential oil to make distillation commercially viable, so all active therapeutic properties are usually extracted by maceration. Calendula oil is anti-inflammatory, anti-spasmodic, choleretic (increasing bile production) and wound healing. It can be used on bedsores, bruises, ulcers, wounds and varicose veins. It is also effective on eczema, dermatitis, rashes and cracked skin.
Use 25% or less to a basic carrier oil for an effective treatment. Calendula will keep for up to 2 years in a dry, dark, airtight place.
