![Argan]() | Argan | Argan (Argania spinosa) The Argan tree grows only in the south-western part of Morocco, in an area covering 700,000-800,000 hectares, and produces nuts from which this nutritious oil is extracted. It is a shrubby tree grown for its almond-sized fruits inside of which, large seeds having a highly esteemed oil are found. The oil is used much like olive oil, and has a similar fat content to that of olive oil, of which 80% is unsaturated fats. Argan oil is slightly darker than olive oil, with a reddish tinge. It can be used for cooking and is claimed to have various medicinal properties, such as lowering cholesterol levels, stimulating circulation and strengthening the body's natural defences. Light, yet naturally rich in vitamin E, argan oil is popular as a massage oil, with the plain, un-toasted version being a key ingredient in facial massage blends. | | |
