Associate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy Courses
The ADCA Course consists of four IN-HOUSE modules of 5 days each, a 5th module of 3 days plus home study and practice relevant to each module. In addition there are the Anatomy and Physiology modules, each of 3 days (unless the student has already studied this or taken the distance learning course), also with home study (there may be exemption from the A&P modules if the student already holds a relevant qualification).

The course is completely modular. Attendance on the foundation module is enough for those who wish only to use essential oils safely at home, to help their family and to enhance their own life. The foundation module forms an integral part of the overall training programme and its completion is required for those students wishing to take further aromatherapy modules with PPAA.

The maximum in a class will be 10 students to a tutor, ensuring high quality individual attention in all aspects of the course work. 100 hours of home study is expected for the Associate Diploma course in the practical and theoretical aspects of aromatherapy. The minimum period for the completion of this course is 12 months: the time usually taken is about 18 months. The maximum time recommended for completion is 48 months. Homework may be given to assist the students during the evenings of the course to secure the practical and theoretical skills learned during the day.

Comprehensive course notes and handouts are given out for each module. Treatment couches, towels, essential oils, carrier oils, and other aromatherapy products used during the course are provided. Textbooks, accommodation and food not included in the fees. Courses will be held at various venues throughout the UK.
Advanced Diploma Courses in Clinical Aromatherapy
These in-depth (IN-HOUSE) courses are designed to give qualified aromatherapists further insight into essential oils and their use in a healthcare setting. The courses present a fresh approach to the study of the effects of essential oils on the body and mind, which will allow the participant an increasingly comprehensive understanding of the essential oils and their pharmacological and therapeutic effects on clients/patients. This is achieved by using the available course time to concentrate on the essential oils themselves, as an understanding of their being at the heart of any aromatic treatment. Full body massage is recognised as a separate discipline and is not taught on this course.
The courses have been designed to accommodate the needs of the following classes of people who already hold an aromatherapy qualification.
- Practising aromatherapists who wish to incorporate aromatic therapy into their own practice and working areas and who do not have the time or the desire to carry out lengthy massage sessions.
- Aromatherapists who wish extend and deepen their knowledge of essential oils and their use in other areas either not taught at all or not taught in sufficient detail on their basic aromatherapy courses e.g. short specific area massage/application as used in hospitals and clinics

Structure and Content of the Courses
The complete group of courses will take between 2 and 4 years and consists of three in-house modules, each of five days duration. In addition, a 10,000-word dissertation is required to be submitted within one year of completing the course, the topic of which will be discussed with your course supervisor. After successful completion of the courses and the dissertation, there are two separate awards. The first two modules form the Licentiate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy. The third module and completion of a dissertation forms the Fellowship Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy.

Other Post-Graduate Courses
The Academy offers a range of continuing professional development courses.
